電腦化適性測驗 Q & A
一、 華語文電腦化適性測驗(TOCFL CAT)和之前的電腦測驗(CBT)
有甚麼不同？
華語文電腦化適性測驗(TOCFL CAT)與GRE、GMAT、BULATS
考試採用相同技術，以試題反應理論(item response theory)為基礎，
此一測驗的特色為考生報名時不需選擇測驗等級，電腦會根據考生
作答每個題目的結果，即時估計考生能力，並選出最適合考生的下
一道試題。由於每個題目都是依據考生能力所選出來的，因此和一
般測驗相比，只要較少的題目就能有相同的精準度(accuracy)。
1. Q: What is the difference between TOCFL CAT and CBT?
A: TOCFL CAT employs Rasch model of item response theory,
which is the same as used in GRE, GMAT, and BULATS. The test
taker does not need to choose testing level or band when register for
the test. The computer will judge the test taker’s response to each test
item and use that as the basis to select the subsequent items.
Compared to other test formats, CAT takes less test items to precisely
evaluate the test takers’ competence, as the item selection is adapted
by the test takers’ responses.
二、 現在開始辦理電腦適性化測驗(CAT)，是不是未來就不再舉行
分等級報名的電腦測驗(CBT)了呢？
原有分等級報名的電腦測驗(CBT)仍會持續定期辦理，不定期的
專案考試則採電腦化適性測驗(CAT)，您可以選擇自己想要的考試方
式，最新考試訊息請參閱官網首頁的考試日程表。
2. Q: Does the implementation of CAT mean that there will be no more
TOCFL tests in the CBT format?
A: The CAT format will be adopted only in group tests held for
institutes through special arrangement while TOCFL held on regular
schedule will still be in the level/band-based CBT format. Test takers

三、我最後的成績是入門級(或基礎級)，可是答題的過程中，出現一
些題型是進階高階級的題目，這是為什麼呢？
電腦系統會依據考生作答結果，即時估計能力值並挑選題目，
所以考生在作答的過程中，能力估計值會不斷變化，每位考生作答
到的題目也會因其作答反應的穩定性而有所不同，是故最後成績落
在入門級或基礎級的考生，可能會作答到部分進階高階級的試題，
這是正常的。
且因 TOCFL 所有試題已經透過等化(equating)的程序，將題目難
度(item difficulty parameter)連結(link)到同一個量尺(scale)上，無論您
作答到哪個等級的試題，都可以準確計算出您的成績。
3. Q: My competence is judged as Level A in the final result. How
come I was given some Bands B or C test items during the test?
A: The computer judges the test taker’s response to each test item and
uses that as the basis to select the subsequent items. The levels of test
items given will, therefore, fluctuate from time to time based on the
test taker’s response. That is why a Band A test taker might
encounter some Band B test items in the test process.
Furthermore, the item difficulty parameters of all the TOCFL test
items are linked to the same scale through an equating system.
Therefore, the test taker’s competence level can be accurately
evaluated regardless of the levels or bands of the test items given.
四、 閱讀測驗有 60 分鐘，我作答完後還有時間，為什麼不能讓我
回頭修改答案？
CAT 的機制是電腦根據考生先前試題作答結果，即時估計能力
值並挑選下一道適合考生的題目，因此點選答案進入到下一題後，
就不能再返回檢查或修改答案。

4. Q: The time limit of the reading test is 60 minutes. Why can’t I go
back to check and change my answers if the time limit is not yet
reached?
A: Since CAT item selection is based on performance, once a test
item is responded to and a subsequent item is presented, the test taker
does not have the chance to go back to double-check or make any
changes.
五、為什麼在閱讀測驗，有的人總共作答了 30 題或 35 題，而我只
作答了 27 題？
閱讀測驗的作答時間是 60 分鐘，因每個人作答速度不同，作答
總題數會有一些差異，大約介於 25-40 題之間。考試時間結束或當
電腦確定考生的能力時，就會自動結束考試，並顯示成績和通過等
級。
由於 CAT 本來的設計就是可用較少的題數，同樣精確估算出能
力值；加上成績是依據每位考生作答的題目難度和答對與否來計
算，因此作答題數稍有不同並不會影響成績計算結果。
5. Q: How come I have only had 27 items in the reading test while some
other test takers had 30 or 35?
A: The time limit of the reading test is 60 minutes. The number of
items for each test taker varies between 25 and 40, as a result of the
individual difference. The test will end with the result presented
when the time limit is reached or when the test taker’s competence
level has been identified, whichever comes earlier.
The variation of the number test items will not affect the test result,
because CAT is designed to take less test items to precisely evaluate
the test takers’ competence and the result is calculated based on the
difficulty level of the test items as well as the performance of the test
taker.

六、關於這個新的考試方式，我有什麼要注意的？
因為電腦系統會根據作答結果，即時估計考生能力，並挑選下
一題最適合的題目，加上每位考生作答到的題目不同，建議考生在
考試前熟悉各個等級的題型和作答方式，以降低考試時的緊張情
緒，表現出最佳水準。
此外，對於閱讀測驗作答題數過少考生，華測會會設定最低作
答題數限制，若閱讀測驗作答題數不到 25 題的考生，其成績會受到
影響，將依答題數比例做調整，請妥善分配各題的作答時間。
6. Q: What else do I need to be aware of with this new test format?
A: The computer judges the test taker’s response to each test item and
uses that as the basis to select the subsequent items, and test takers do
not receive exactly the same test items. It is therefore suggested that
test takers familiarize themselves with the item types of all the bands
and levels so as to have the best performance.
In addition, SCTOP sets the minimum test items at 25, so the scores of
the reading test will be adjusted based on the portion of items
responded to if the test taker finishes less than 25 items. The test taker
is advised to allocate enough time to different sections of the test.
