中三英語科一段試題 4頁,第3
We all know that hunters are people who try to kill or catch
animals. A bird hunter hunts birds, and a bear hunter hunts bears.
Do you know what a headhunter does?
Headhunters hunt better jobs for people and great people for
companies. Most people look for jobs on the Internet. However,
what they can find is often limited. Some companies list only a few
positions on the Internet because they don’t want others to know about the other important
positions. For example, when a computer company plans to make cellphones, it may not
want other cellphone companies to know about this. In this case, the company won’t look
for cellphone engineers on the Net. It will have headhunters help it hunt for great engineers.
Knowing lots of people is helpful for headhunters to fill a position faster, so headhunters
are good at talking and dealing with people. They also have to know people well, for
example, what they are good and not so good at. To help people get a job, headhunters also
teach them what to do in an interview. When a company needs someone, a headhunter can’t
just push anyone to try to get the job. They have to understand the company’s needs and
read through people’s resumes carefully to find the right person. Headhunters are hunters in
cities. Just like hunters catch animals, they catch people to the right companies!

(B) Knowing more people will be good for their job.
(C) They sometimes help people prepare for an interview.
(D) They hunt people for companies but not positions for people.
Students like to work part-time during their winter or summer vacation. Dozens of
years ago, they used to find jobs near their homes or schools. They might have worked as
waiters or waitresses in a restaurant or as workers in a factory. They made money in Taiwan.
Now, it’s another story. More and more young people choose to work in other
countries. For one thing, they can practice their English; for another, they can make money
and also take a trip. We call this kind of program “a working holiday vacation.” It is
reported that Australia is the most popular country for young people in Taiwan. More than
17,000 Taiwanese are working holidays there.
Interviewee A said, “I can make more money here.”
Interviewee B said, “Working on the farm is never easy, but I can make
much more money here than in Taiwan.
Interviewee C said, “ I can learn more English because I live here and use
English every day. Besides, I can make more money.”
They choose Australia because of the money. But be sure to choose the working
place. A young woman on working holiday in Australia said she had been exploited. Her
boss should pay her AU$ 15.96 per hour, but she only got AU$10.97.
She was sad and angry, but she couldn’t do anything. If you want
to take a working vacation, make sure you know what you are
doing before you leave.
