Cold-Water Chess
01/18/2021 by Tracy Lendon
Playing chess doesn’t sound interesting or new to
you. How about playing chess in cold water?
Two Russian swimmers got the idea for cold-water
chess after reading about winter swimmers who played the
game in Soviet times. It may look like a crazy thing to do,
and you may catch cold when you play chess in icy water.
However, the swimmers said that it had its benefits.
One of them said that playing in cold water helped
him concentrate and let him stay in the water for longer.
Besides, you face your fear. After you get past that,
you make your mental power stronger. Just like what the
other swimmer said, you tested your will and tolerance
after you got into cold water.

Pets are wonderful friends that bring joy into our
lives with their love. Sadly, however, many animals are
living lonely lives in shelters around the world, just waiting
for a person to love.
The animals in a shelter only have a limited time to
be adopted. Many shelters are filled with more animals than
they can take in, but they must still take new animals in
every day. Some animals must be euthanized to make room
for the new ones. A brewery in Florida recently teamed up
with Manatee County Animal Services (MCAS) to try and
solve this problem.
The brewery took pictures of some cute dogs at
the shelter and printed them on their beer cans, along with
some information about each dog. The proceeds from all
the beer sales will be donated to MCAS, so they can build
a new shelter. So far, two dogs printed on the beer cans
have already been adopted!

the tradition, too. "We love Christmas at the farm. If I had it
