THE FOX AND THE GRAPES
There is a fox. It is very hungry because there is no food for
it to eat. It is very sad and walks slowly. It walks through a
vineyard. Suddenly, it sees a grapevine and there are many grapes
on it. The fox is so hungry and tries to get some grapes. It
jumps high but just can’t reach any. It tries several times but never
succeeds. In the end, it is tired and decides to stop. It talks to
itself, “I won’t eat the grapes because they must be very sour.”
Then, it leaves and still feels hungry.
The story above is what The Fox and the Grapes is about.
It is also one of Aesop’s fables. Because of this story, the English
phrase “sour grapes” appeared. What’s more, we can see this
phrase in many other languages, such as Chinese.
