What colors do you see the most on Halloween? Pumpkin orange, scary black, or ghost white? Bright blue has
become a new color for Halloween since 2018, and it started with a mom’s love.
A mother named Alicia Plumer shared a photo of a blue Halloween candy bucket on Facebook and wrote something.
Alicia’s son loves Halloween very much. He may not be able to say “trick or treat” out loud happily at your door
because he has nonverbal autism. However, Alicia hopes that her son can still enjoy the fun of Halloween. Her
message on Facebook was quickly shared more than 27,000 times. Carrying a blue bucket becomes a way of telling
people that this child or young adult may not be able to make eye contact or even say “thank you”, but they also have
the right to be a part of trick-or-treating. bucket桶子nonverbal非口語的autism閉症;contact接觸

Since the COVID-19 outbreak this year, many people have driven anywhere and lined up for hours just to get a
mask. However, to prevent the COVID-19, washing your hands often is more important than wearing a face mask, said
Miu Wei-chieh, a doctor at Mennonite Christian Hospital in Hualien.
Miu said that both “wet wash” and “dry wash” ways can help prevent people from catching a virus. A wet wash is
washing one's hands under running water with soap for more than a minute, so one's hands are very clean. Using only
warm water is useless. A dry wash is using an alcohol-based hand cleaner to clean one's hands. Only people who visit
a hospital or who are serious sick should wear masks.
Dr. Chen Wei-po said that masks can be reused by the same wearer if the masks do not get wet and are not worn for
more than four to six hours in dangerous places like hospitals. Doctors say that masks can be sterilized by putting both
sides of the mask under the ultraviolet (UV) light for 30 minutes. However, the masks must then be put in a clean dry
place for three days before being reused. Another way to extend the life of masks is to use the washable mask covers.
The mask cover needs to be cleaned every day before use.

(D) A dry mask which isn’t used for over six hours and is worn by the same person.
35. According to the reading, which is right?

(B) After exposing a mask to VU light for 30 minutes, it can be reused right away.
(C) The better way to prevent people from getting a virus is to wash hands.

India’s Dangerous Garbage Mountain
A large “garbage mountain” is the Ghazipur landfill in New Delhi, India. It’s already 65 meters high. Every year,
the landfill grows by 10m. By 2020, it will be taller than the 73-meter-high Taj Mahal.
People leave about two million kilograms of garbage there every day. Soon, India’s government will need to put
red lights on it. This will make it easier for airplanes to see.
The garbage makes dangerous gas. It often catches fire, and it takes days to put out these fires. The air, land and
water around the landfill are full of pollution. This makes people sick. The government wants to clean up the landfill.
They’ll need to work hard to solve this serious problem. *adapted from 康軒英語 “Global Vision”

Eat According to Your Blood Type by Eric Carle
★★★★☆ 4 out of 5 stars NT$250
Dr. Coolman believes that the foods people eat react with their blood types. If people follow a diet according to
their blood types, they will get more energy, become healthier, and even lose weight.
1. Blood Type O--People with blood type O can “digest” meat and vegetables well. They should eat more beef,
chicken, and fish if they want to lose weight. However, eating rice and beans isn’t helpful at all.
2. Blood Type A-- People with blood type A should eat more fruit and vegetables if they want to lose weight.
Meat isn’t digested easily in their bodies, so they should eat less meat.
3. Blood Type B--People with blood type B should eat fewer noodles because they make them fat. Meat, milk,
and vegetables are good for them to lose weight.
4. Blood Type AB--Only 5% of the people around the world have blood type AB. The number is much lower
than type A, B, and O. It is healthier for them to eat vegetables, fruit, and eggs to go on a diet, but they should
eat less meat. weight 體重
44. Which meaning is the same as that of “digest” in the reading?
(A) To think over and try to understand something.
(B) To have the food that is in your stomach come out through your mouth.
(C) To change food in your stomach into things that your body can use.
(D) To make food or drink go down your throat into your stomach.
45. What do we know from the reading?
(A) People with blood type A shouldn’t eat meat, and people with blood type B shouldn’t, either.
(B) Meat is good for people with blood type B, and so are noodles.
(C) If someone is a big fan of steak, he or she won’t be very happy about the blood type A diet.
(D) People with blood type O should eat more beans to lose weight.
