A long time ago at a temple in Japan, there were many apprentices. One of them was very smart. His name was Ikkyu. He was
even smarter than the abbot. The abbot had a big can of honey. He didn’t want anyone else to eat it. He told everyone, “This is some
kind of medicine. Only wise old people can take it. It is bad for young people like you. If you take it, you will die.” However, Ikkyu
and all the other apprentices knew the truth. It wasn’t medicine; it was just honey. One day, when the abbot was out, Ikkyu took the
honey out and started eating it. Soon, other apprentices joined him, and they finished the honey in the can. Before they knew it, the
can was empty. All the apprentices were nervous and worried, but just then, Ikkyu broke the abbot’s favorite vase. When the abbot
came back, he found the pieces of the vase on the floor. There was no more honey in the can, and all the apprentices were crying.
“What’s the matter? “ asked the abbot. Ikkyu cried and said, “We broke your favorite vase when we were cleaning. We felt really
sorry. We could only pay you back with our lives, so we took all the medicine in the can to kill ourselves.

What do you do if you see a bear in the forest? Some might answer, "Play dead." The question is, "Does it work?"
If you see a bear, don't be scared. Just leave, but don't turn your back on the bear. Slowly back away from it. However, it's another
story if the bear attacks you. Brown bears seldom attack a person; most of the attacks happen because they want to protect their food,
babies, or home. So, playing dead could be helpful.
However, playing dead might not work with predatory bears. Although brown bears don't usually want to hurt people, black bears
may see people as food. They kill and eat animals, so playing dead in front of them could make you the meat on their plate. Also,
don't try to run from them or climb a tree. They can do both much faster than you. You have to fight back.
