Our seas and oceans are in serious danger. For too many years we have fished too much and haven’t recycled our trash
correctly. We need to act now if we want to 26 our planets waters healthy again.
One of the most important things you can do is to use less plastic. Plastic ruins the oceans environment and kills thousands
of ocean animals each year. 27 . Carry your own water bottle that you can use again and again. Do the same with your
shopping bags. When you go to the store, take your own bag to put your items in. Avoid using plastic bags 28 . And if you
must use plastic, make sure you recycle it so it doesnt go into the ocean.
29 , pay attention to the food you eat. Many fish are disappearing from our oceans because of too much fishing. If you
go to a seafood restaurant, choose what you order carefully. Dont add to the problem by ordering seafood that is in danger.
Another great way to help is by joining an environmental group. Many groups hold beach-cleaning activities where people
get together and pick up the trash on beaches. 30 , try donating a little money to those groups to help support their hard
work.
With a little effort from everyone, our sick oceans will soon start to get better again.

Whats a Berry?
Heres something I ll bet you didnt know: strawberries are not berries. Neither are raspberries, nor blackberries. Berries are
complex fruits, meaning they develop from flowers with many ovaries. A true berry, however, is a simple fruit, developing from a
flower with only one ovary.
The ovary is the part of a flower. It grows into a fruit after pollination. Some flowers have one ovary, and others have more.
To be a berry, a fruit is formed from a flower with only one ovary. This means that fruits such as grapes, bananas, tomatoes, and
even watermelons are berries. But many things we call berries are not. In fact, the little seeds you see on the outside of a
strawberry arent seeds at all. Each is really an ovary from the original flower, with a seed inside. Thats too many ovaries to count!
Just how people started calling complex fruits berries, and true berries other things, is a mystery. Even if we keep on making
that mistake, though, at least now well know what were really buying at the market.

Angkor Wat Stops Elephant Rides
Riding an elephant may sound fun and special. However few people realize the harm it causes these gentle animals. In 2016,
an elephant died at Angkor Wat, Cambodias most famous tourist attraction. The elephant, Sambo, died due to extreme heat and the
physical stress of carrying tourists.
After this, animal rights groups put pressure on Cambodia to stop elephant rides. Over 185,000 people signed a request to stop
the practice. Now, people cannot ride elephants at the ancient Hindu temple or its surrounding park.
This former work elephants from Angkor Wat will be moved to a nearby forest. Theyll live in their natural environment and
wont be forced to do labor. Fewer than 50,000 Asian elephants currently live in the wild. At least these few will now live peaceful
and safe lives.
