The nation’s Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications
organized the first “Taiwan Lantern Festival” celebrations in 1990. Over the last two
decades, the bureau has endeavored to stage the festival in cities and counties across
the island. This year the southwestern city of Chiayi is expecting huge crowds today
for this big event. This year’s main lantern features a tiger leaping over a rainbow-
like bridge, carrying the meaning “Blessing Arrives in the Treasure Island.”
It’s estimated that US$10 billion a year has been spent on new construction in Berlin,
a remade city, since reunification. Commercial urban development projects now
occupy the area where the Wall stood. The eye-popping commercial projects give
Berlin its dynamic new lifestyle. Moreover, new cultures, arts, sports, shopping and
popular entertainment venues supplement traditional attractions.

In 2004, the Formosa Star, the premier train tour service of the Taiwan Railway
Administration (TRA), was launched. Through providing warm and meticulous service,
the TRA hopes to bring Taiwan into the age of luxury tourism. You designed a four-day
Formosa Star’s itinerary around the island and proposed it to the TRA. Your proposal was
accepted. You are writing an essay to promote this tour package to international tourists.
Your explanation on tour attractions should include (1) the features of the train, (2) the
scenic attractions to enjoy when passengers are in the train (on the way to destinations)
and to visit when they are off the train (at destinations), and (3) the excitement.
