Which hand do you use to write, hold chopsticks or shake
hands? Most people use their right hand. Studies show that about
one out of ten people in the world uses the left hand. Left-handers
are much less common.
No one is sure what makes a person right-handed or left-
handed. Some people think that left-handed parents will often
have left-handed children, but that is not true. Kids usually show
which hand they use more often at an early age.
Long ago, the Romans believed that the right side of the
body was the good side, and the left side held evil spirits.
Because of the myth, parents forced their left-handed children to
use the “right” hand instead of the wrong dirty hand.
Now, most people don’t really mind being left-handed.
However, left-handers still find it hard to use many things. Most
can openers, rulers, guitars are easier for right-handers to use.
To make life more convenient for left-handers, there are
more things and tools designed just for them. Now left-handers
do not need to be “left out.”
34. According to the reading, if a class has 28 students, how many
of them may be left-handed?
(A) 2.8 (B) 3 (C) 12 (D) 25
35. Why did Roman parents in the past make left-handed children
use their right hand?
(A) Because using left hands was not convenient.
(B) Because the parents themselves were right-handers.
(C) Because they believed left-handers were evil and wrong.
(D) Because they wanted their kids to be the same as others.
36. Which of the things below is designed for left-handers to use
more easily?
(A) (B)
(C) (D)
37. What is the best title for the reading? title 標題
(A) Nothing Wrong with Left-handers
(B) A World Designed for the Left-handed
(C) The Roman Myth of the Evil Side of the Body
