This situation must have happened in your lifetime. Standing in a classroom, you find
more boys than girls. However, it is probably not the same anymore in Taiwan. In
November of 2014, there were more women than men by 956. This was the first time in
history that women had outnumbered men. It is believed that the number of women will
be greater than that of men.
The ratio of men to women has long been noticed in different countries. Take the year
of 2011 for example. India’s ratio of men to women was 107 to 100, Malaysia’s 106 to 100,
China’s 105 to 100, and Taiwan’s 101 to 100. Unlike the above countries, the following
countries had different situations. Italy’s ratio of men to women was 93 to 100, Frances
94 to 100, Japan’s 95 to 100, Austria 95 to 100, and Mexico’s 96 to 100.
Taiwan used to have more men than women for the following reasons. Many
Taiwanese thought it was important to give birth to boys. Historically, lots of men came to
Taiwan from China in the 1950s. However, with those men passing away and more women
coming from foreign countries, the ratio of men to women is believed to be different for
years to come.

Millions of people like to watch others eat on camera. These online videos, (42)___

eating alone is more common. (43) . It helps those single people to connect

I’m going to the movie this evening. Are you coming?
When is the movie? I am going to Crazy Cut at five.
It starts at six. I guess I’ll just have to go by myself. What are you going to do with your
hair?
I need some changes. I’m tired of putting my hair a bun like a ballet dancer every day.
How about an Afro? You might look great in it.
My head is already big. I don’t need a cloud on my head to make it look bigger.
I remember you had a bowl cut when you were little. Maybe it’s time to bring it back.
If I want a bowl cut, I can put a bowl on my head, and cut my hair myself. Maybe I
should get cornrows.
Cornrows? You won’t look good with lines of ropes on your head. Trust me.
That’s it. I’ve made up my mind. I am getting cornrows.
All right. I hope you won’t complain about your wrong decision.
I won’t. You’re going to be amazed by the whole new me. We can still meet right after
the movie if you want. I know there's a good restaurant near the movie theater.
The movie is about one and a half hours long. Are you able to come over by then?
Sure. Crazy Cut closes at seven. Besides, I don’t think it will take that much time.
Great. Let’s meet at the theater. I’ll call you when the movie is almost over.
