I. It was early morning , and it was still raining
in Taitung. There were fallen trees and a lot of
garbage everywhere in the city, so a lot of people

III. Humans have tried to communicate with
animals for a long time. People did that when they
started to work with the animals, like horses or
dogs. The animals, however, can’t really speak to
us in our languages. Can we do something like
teaching them how to speak our words? No! It’s
impossible. We can teach them in another way:
using a sign.
Some scientists used different kinds of shapes
for a gorilla. Each of them can stand for a word or
a sentence. With that, the animal can communicate
with us. Besides, since it’s hard for animals to
learn ours, people can learn theirs. Other scientists
are trying to understand the sound that dolphins,
whales, or elephants make. They record it and
study it. Perhaps one day they will get to know
about what they are thinking.
